Athletic Breakthrough!

Good Morning Everyone!

Well what do you know, after so many weeks of waiting and pondering whether or not homosexual athletes would finally exit the closet, just yesterday, the first of what I am sure will be many has made that move! NBA center for Washington Wizards, Jason Collins decided to come out of the closet! I was at work and mid conversation I looked up at the TV and saw that this was taking place! As you can imagine, I couldn’t wait to tell you guys! This is a huge step, not only for Jason, but for all of the sports world and the homosexual community as a whole!

He wrote a piece to Sports Illustrated saying, “I’m a 34-year-old NBA center. I’m black. And I’m gay.
I didn’t set out to be the first openly gay athlete playing in a major American team sport. But since I am, I’m happy to start the conversation. I wish I wasn’t the kid in the classroom raising his hand and saying, ‘I’m different.’ If I had my way, someone else would have already done this. Nobody has, which is why I’m raising my hand.”

I also liked when he said, “The first relative I came out to was my aunt Teri, a superior court judge in San Francisco. Her reaction surprised me. “I’ve known you were gay for years,” she said. From that moment on I was comfortable in my own skin. In her presence I ignored my censor button for the first time. She gave me support. The relief I felt was a sweet release. Imagine you’re in the oven, baking. Some of us know and accept our sexuality right away and some need more time to cook. I should know — I baked for 33 years.”

I just think this is soooooo wonderful and let me just add that my FAVORITE President of all time, Bill Clinton issued a statement in support of Collins as well!

Mr. Collins, Thank you! Thank you for having the courage to be yourself! For having the strength to make everything that I talk about more relevant, more believable and understandable! You are appreciated!

Peace and Blessings to you all!
